AI Translator
Paste text in any language, choose the language you want and the style, and get a translation that keeps your formatting, names and numbers.
What the Translator does
The Translator turns text from one language into another while keeping its meaning and tone. Paste a message, a product page, a menu or a paragraph from a document, choose one of 48 target languages and a style, and you get a translation that reads like it was written by a native speaker rather than converted word by word. You do not need to say what language the original is in; it is detected from the text.
Translation runs on Llama 4 Maverick, Meta's open-weight multilingual model, served through a cloud inference provider. The tool keeps names, brands, numbers, code, links and Markdown formatting unchanged, keeps your line breaks and lists, and translates any instructions inside your text instead of following them.
How to use it
- Paste or type your text in any language. You can click an example to try it first.
- Choose the target language in the "Translate into" menu. The list covers all 26 languages of this site plus 22 more, including Traditional Chinese, European Portuguese, Greek, Hebrew, Romanian, Swahili, Tamil and Punjabi.
- Pick a style. Natural for everyday text, Formal for business and official messages, Casual for friends and chats, or Close to the original when you want to follow the source wording as closely as the target language allows, for example to check what a sentence literally says.
- Press Generate. Copy the translation, Regenerate for an alternative wording, or Continue in chat to ask about a word choice.
Tips for better translations
- Give context with short texts. A single word like "bank" or "date" can mean several things. Add a few words around it, or ask in the chat: "Translate 'date' as in a romantic date".
- Choose formality on purpose. Many languages, such as German, French, Russian, Hindi or Japanese, mark politeness in grammar. The Formal and Casual styles control which form you get.
- Translate back to check. For an important message, translate the result back into your own language and see whether the meaning survived.
- Keep the layout. Lists, headings and bold text in Markdown come through intact, so you can translate structured text in one go.
- Ask about idioms. Continue in chat and ask why a phrase was translated a certain way, or for two alternatives with different tone.
Example
| Original (English) | Target and style | Translation |
|---|---|---|
| Hi! I'm running about ten minutes late because the bus broke down. Please start the meeting without me. | Spanish, casual | ¡Hola! Llego unos diez minutos tarde porque se averió el autobús. Empiecen la reunión sin mí. |
| Thank you for your order. Your package will be shipped within two working days. | German, formal | Vielen Dank für Ihre Bestellung. Ihr Paket wird innerhalb von zwei Werktagen versandt. |
How reliable is it?
Meta lists 12 officially supported languages for Llama 4 on its model card: Arabic, English, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Tagalog, Thai and Vietnamese. The model was trained on many more, and in practice it translates most widely spoken languages well, but quality is less even outside that list, especially for less common language pairs.
- Use a professional for high stakes. Contracts, medical instructions, immigration papers and anything legally binding need a qualified human translator.
- Check names, numbers and dates. They are kept unchanged by design, but date formats and units differ between countries.
- Your text is processed, not stored. It goes through our server to the model provider to produce the translation. Avoid pasting confidential documents; our privacy and safety guide has simple rules.
FAQ
Is the Translator free?
Yes, with no account or sign-up. Each translation uses one message from your free daily allowance, which is shared with the chat and the other tools and resets every day.
Which languages can I translate from?
Any language the model can read. You do not choose the source language; just paste the text. If a text mixes languages, everything is translated into the target you picked.
Can it translate a whole document or a website?
It translates the text you paste, up to a few thousand characters at a time. It cannot open files or links, so copy the text in parts.
Can I use it to learn a language?
Yes. Translate a sentence, then Continue in chat and ask for a word-by-word explanation or grammar notes. You can also start a translation with explanations in the chat.
What should I use to fix my own writing in a foreign language?
Write the text yourself and run it through the Grammar Checker, which explains each correction. To make a translation simpler or more formal afterwards, use the Paraphraser.
