AI Essay Writer
Give a topic and your own notes, choose the essay type, level and length, and get a structured outline or draft to build on in your own words.
What the Essay Writer does
The Essay Writer helps you get from a topic to a structured essay. Give it the question, your position and your own notes, and it produces either a detailed outline or a full draft with a title, an introduction with a clear thesis, body paragraphs that each argue one point, and a conclusion that adds a final thought instead of repeating the opening. It is built for planning and drafting, so you can see how an argument could be organized and then write the final version yourself.
The tool uses Llama 4 Maverick, Meta's open-weight model, through a cloud inference provider. It is told never to invent statistics, studies, quotations or sources. Where evidence would strengthen a point, it leaves a placeholder in square brackets that describes what kind of source to look for, such as [source: survey on how long pupils spend on homework].
How to use it
- Enter the topic and your notes. Paste the essay question, your view if you have one, and the points, examples or course material you want included. Your notes are what make the essay yours.
- Choose the essay type: argumentative, expository, compare and contrast, cause and effect, or narrative and personal.
- Choose the level: high school, university or general reader. This changes vocabulary, nuance and how developed the argument is.
- Choose the length: an outline only, or a draft of about 300, 600 or 1,000 words. Lengths are approximate.
- Press Generate. Copy the result, Regenerate for a different structure, or Continue in chat to work on one paragraph at a time.
A better way to work
- Start with the outline. Generate an outline first, change the order of points, cut the weak ones, then ask for a draft in the chat based on your edited outline.
- Bring your evidence. Add facts from your readings, lectures or sources to the notes. The draft builds on them instead of leaving placeholders.
- Test your thesis. In the chat, ask "What is the strongest objection to this thesis?" and decide whether your argument answers it.
- Rewrite in your own voice. Use the draft as scaffolding. Rewrite each paragraph yourself, with your own examples and phrasing.
- Proofread at the end. When your version is ready, run it through the Grammar Checker.
Example outline
Topic and notes: Should homework be banned in primary schools? My view: limit it, don't ban it. Points: family and play time, reading at home still helps, not every child gets help at home.
Settings: Argumentative, high school, outline only.
| Part | Content |
|---|---|
| Thesis | Primary schools should limit homework to short reading and practice tasks rather than ban it outright. |
| Point 1 | Young children need time for play, rest and family life; heavy homework takes it away. |
| Point 2 | Short daily reading at home builds habits that classroom time alone may not. [source: research on reading at home in early years] |
| Point 3 | Long assignments widen gaps between children who get help at home and those who do not. |
| Counterargument | A ban removes the pressure entirely. Answer: it also removes the useful parts, such as reading. |
| Conclusion | A clear limit keeps the benefits and drops the harm. |
Academic integrity
Submitting an AI-written essay as your own work breaks the rules at most schools and universities, and it skips the learning the assignment is meant to give you. Check your course policy on AI tools before you start. Fair uses include brainstorming, outlining, seeing an example structure and getting feedback on your own draft. Our guide on AI for students has more on using it responsibly.
- Verify everything. The model can state things confidently that are wrong or outdated; its training data stops at a cut-off date and it cannot look things up.
- Find real sources. Replace every placeholder with a source you have actually read, and cite it properly.
FAQ
Is the Essay Writer free?
Yes, without an account. Each Generate uses one message from your free daily allowance, shared with the chat and the other tools and reset every day.
Will the essay contain real references?
No. The tool is instructed not to invent sources and writes placeholders instead. Finding and citing real sources is your job.
Can it write a longer essay?
The longest option is about 1,000 words. For longer work, generate an outline, then draft each section separately in the chat.
Can I write the essay in another language?
Yes. Write your topic and notes in that language and the essay comes back in it.
Can I plan an essay in a conversation instead?
Yes. Start an essay plan in the chat and build it step by step. To shorten your source readings first, use the Summarizer.
