What the Grammar Checker does

The Grammar Checker proofreads your text and fixes spelling, grammar, punctuation, agreement and word choice mistakes. Unlike a rewriting tool, it leaves correct sentences alone, so your text still sounds like you. You can see every change with a short reason, get a clean corrected copy, or have each mistake explained with the rule behind it, which is useful if you are learning the language.

It runs on Llama 4 Maverick, an open-weight model made by Meta, through a cloud inference provider. Because it is a language model rather than a list of rules, it can catch errors that depend on meaning, such as "their" versus "there" or a verb that does not match a subject several words away.

How to use it

  1. Paste your text: an email, a cover letter, an essay paragraph, a social post or a message in a language you are learning.
  2. Choose the editing level. Mistakes only fixes clear errors and nothing else. Mistakes + clarity also smooths awkward or unclear phrasing. Full polish goes further and tightens wordy sentences while keeping your voice.
  3. Choose what to show. Corrected text + changes gives the fixed text and a list of edits. Corrected text only is fastest when you just want to copy and send. Explain each mistake lists every error with the rule, then the corrected text.
  4. Press Generate and read the result. Copy it, Regenerate if you want a second opinion, or Continue in chat to ask about a specific correction.

Tips for cleaner results

  • Start with the lightest level. Mistakes only keeps the most of your original. Move up to clarity or full polish only if the text still reads awkwardly.
  • Read the change list. It is the fastest way to spot a correction you disagree with, for example a name or a technical term that was "fixed" by mistake.
  • Say which spelling you use. If you write British or American English, add a line in the chat such as "use British spelling", and the checker will stick to it.
  • Learn from repeats. If the same rule shows up in every check, such as articles or comma splices, ask in the chat for a short lesson and a few practice sentences.

Limits

  • It can miss things or over-correct. No checker is perfect. Accept changes you understand, and check the ones that look odd.
  • Style rules differ. Your school, publisher or company may have rules on commas, capitals or spelling that the tool does not know. Follow them where they differ.
  • Meaning is yours. The tool fixes form, not facts. It will not tell you whether a claim in your text is true.
  • Privacy. Your text is sent through our server to the model provider for the check and is not kept by us. Do not paste passwords or other people's private data.

FAQ

Is the Grammar Checker free?

Yes. There is nothing to install and no account. Each check uses one message from your free daily allowance, shared across the chat and every tool, renewed each day.

Does it check languages other than English?

Yes. Paste text in another language and the corrections and explanations come back in that language. It is strongest in widely used languages; Meta lists 12 officially supported ones for Llama 4.

What is the difference between this and the Paraphraser?

This tool changes only what is wrong (or, at higher levels, what is unclear). The Paraphraser rewrites the whole text in new words.

Can it improve the structure of an essay?

Full polish works sentence by sentence. For feedback on structure and argument, paste the essay into the chat and ask for a review, or plan a new draft with the Essay Writer. Our AI writing tips cover how to ask for useful feedback.

Can I ask for corrections in a conversation?

Yes. Open a proofreading prompt in the chat, paste your text and ask follow-up questions about any rule.
