What the Paraphraser does

Sometimes the meaning is right but the words are not. A sentence sounds stiff, a paragraph is too dense for its readers, or you have used the same phrase three times. The Paraphraser rewrites your text in new words while keeping every fact, name and number in place. It changes sentence structure, not just single words, so the result reads as genuinely rewritten rather than run through a thesaurus.

It runs on Llama 4 Maverick, Meta's open-weight model, through a cloud inference provider. The tool is instructed not to add ideas, drop important points or answer questions that appear inside your text: whatever you paste is treated as material to reword.

How to use it

  1. Paste your text into the box, anything from one line to several paragraphs. The examples under the box show the kind of input that works well.
  2. Pick a style.
    • Natural: fluent and close to the original length. A good default.
    • Simpler: everyday words and shorter sentences, useful for young readers or language learners.
    • Formal: polished wording for work or academic writing.
    • Casual: relaxed, like you are talking to a friend.
    • Shorter: the same message with repetition and filler cut, roughly two thirds of the length.
    • Creative: fresher, more vivid phrasing with the meaning intact.
  3. Choose one version or three. Three numbered versions let you compare and pick the one that fits.
  4. Press Generate. Copy the result, Regenerate for new wording, or Continue in chat to adjust it further.

Getting the most out of it

  • Work in chunks. A paragraph or two at a time keeps the rewrite close to the original and makes it easy to compare side by side.
  • Use Simpler before Shorter. If a text is hard to read, simplify it first; trimming a dense text often keeps it dense.
  • Protect key terms. Technical terms and names are kept as they are. If a phrase must not change at all, say so in the chat: "keep the phrase 'net zero' exactly".
  • Mix versions. With three versions you can take the opening from one and the ending from another, then polish it yourself.
  • Check the tone, not just the words. Read the result aloud. If it sounds unlike you, switch the style or edit a few phrases back.

Example

Original: Our team was not able to finish the report on time because several people were sick, so we would like to ask for a few more days to complete it properly.

StyleRewritten
FormalDue to illness within the team, we were unable to complete the report by the deadline. We would therefore request a short extension so that it can be finished to the required standard.
SimplerSome of our team were ill, so the report is not ready yet. Can we have a few more days to finish it well?
ShorterSeveral team members were ill, so we need a few more days to finish the report properly.

Limits and fair use

  • Meaning can drift. Rewording sometimes softens a claim or makes it stronger. Compare the result with your original, especially for numbers, conditions and negatives such as "not" or "only".
  • Paraphrasing is not citing. Rewording someone else's work does not make it yours. In school and published writing, credit the source even when the words are new.
  • Follow your course rules. Many schools and universities have policies on AI tools. Check what is allowed before using a rewrite in graded work; our guide on AI for students covers fair ways to use it.
  • Private text. What you paste is sent through our server to the model provider to produce the rewrite. Keep confidential material out of it.

FAQ

Is the Paraphraser free to use?

Yes. No sign-up is needed. Every Generate uses one message from your free daily allowance, shared with the chat and the other tools and renewed each day.

Does it work in my language?

Paste text in your language and the rewrite stays in that language. Meta officially supports 12 languages for Llama 4, and other languages often work well too, though results are less consistent.

Will the rewrite pass a plagiarism or AI checker?

We make no such promise, and you should not use the tool for that purpose. Detectors are unreliable in both directions, and the honest approach is to cite your sources and follow your institution's rules.

How is this different from the Grammar Checker?

The Grammar Checker fixes mistakes and leaves correct sentences alone. The Paraphraser rewrites everything in new words, even sentences that were already fine.

Can I give my own instructions?

Yes, in the chat. Try this ready-made prompt: paraphrase in the chat. To cut a long text down instead of rewording it, use the Summarizer.
