What the Homework Helper does

The Homework Helper works like a patient tutor who is available whenever you are stuck. Type a question from any subject, such as science, history, geography, languages or math, and choose how much help you want. It can explain the solution step by step, give you only hints so you find the answer yourself, check an answer you already wrote, or explain the idea behind the question with an everyday example.

The tool runs on Llama 4 Maverick, an open-weight model released by Meta, through a cloud inference provider. It is set up to help you understand rather than copy: it says what the question is really asking, explains in words that fit your school level, and often ends with a short practice question so you can test yourself.

How to use it

  1. Type your question exactly as it appears in your homework. To have your own work checked, write your answer after the question, for example "My answer: 90 km/h".
  2. Choose how to help.
    • Explain step by step: a full walk-through with the answer at the end.
    • Hints only: guiding questions and the next step, never the final answer.
    • Check my answer: what you got right, and where any mistake is, without redoing everything.
    • Explain the idea simply: the concept first, with an everyday example, then how it applies.
  3. Choose your school level: primary school, middle school, high school or university.
  4. Press Generate. Read the explanation, try the practice question, and Continue in chat if you want to ask "why?" about any step.

Tips for learning, not just finishing

  • Try first, then check. Solve the problem yourself, then use Check my answer. You learn far more from finding your own mistake.
  • Use hints when you are stuck halfway. Hints only gives you the next step and leaves the rest to you.
  • Ask for a different explanation. If the first one does not click, press Regenerate or ask in the chat for a picture-in-words, an analogy or a simpler version.
  • Do the practice question. Answer it in the chat and ask for feedback. It is a quick way to see whether you really understood.
  • Have a photo of the task? The tool takes text only, but the chat with Llama 4 models can read an image. Attach a clear photo of the question there.

Example

Question: A train travels 180 km in 2 hours and 30 minutes. What is its average speed in km/h? My answer: 90 km/h.

Settings: Check my answer, middle school.

StepFeedback
What you did rightYou used the correct idea: average speed = distance ÷ time.
The mistakeYou divided by 2 hours, but the time is 2 hours and 30 minutes, which is 2.5 hours.
Fix it yourselfWork out 180 ÷ 2.5. What do you get?
PracticeA cyclist rides 45 km in 1 hour and 30 minutes. What is the average speed?

Honest use and limits

Copying answers you do not understand does not help on a test, and handing in AI-written work as your own can break your school's rules. Ask your teacher what is allowed. Using the tool to understand a topic, check your work or practice is usually the safe side of that line. Our guide on AI for students explains more.

  • It can be wrong. AI models make mistakes, especially with tricky calculations, dates and facts. If something looks off, check your textbook or ask your teacher.
  • No internet access. The model cannot look things up, and its knowledge stops at a cut-off date, so recent events are not covered.
  • For younger children, a parent or teacher nearby is a good idea. The site is not meant for children under 13.

FAQ

Is the Homework Helper free?

Yes, with no sign-up. Each question uses one message from the free daily allowance that the chat and the tools share; it resets every day.

Which subjects does it cover?

Most school subjects: science, history, geography, literature, languages, economics and math. For math with many steps, the Math Solver checks its own result at the end.

Can it answer in my language?

Yes. Type your question in your language and the explanation comes back in it.

Will it just give me the answer?

Only if you choose Explain step by step, and even then it shows the reasoning. Hints only never gives the final answer.

Can I keep asking questions about the same topic?

Yes. Click Continue in chat, or open a study prompt in the chat. To shorten a long reading first, use the Summarizer.
