What the Math Solver does

The Math Solver works through math problems step by step. Type an equation or a word problem and it restates what is being asked, solves it in numbered steps with each calculation shown, checks the result at the end, and gives the final answer in bold with units. You choose how much it shows: the full solution, only the key steps, or just the first step and a hint.

It runs on Llama 4 Maverick, Meta's open-weight model, through a cloud inference provider. Language models can slip on arithmetic, so the tool is instructed to verify its answer by substitution or a second method and to correct itself if the check fails. Formulas are written with plain symbols such as ×, ÷, √, ² and π, so they display cleanly on any device.

How to use it

  1. Type the problem. Write equations in plain text, for example 3(x − 4) = 2x + 5 or x^2 − 5x + 6 = 0, or paste the full word problem.
  2. Choose the solution style. Full steps explains every step. Key steps only is quicker for checking your work. First step + hint gets you going without giving the answer away.
  3. Choose the level: middle school, high school or university. This changes the methods and notation used.
  4. Press Generate. Follow the steps, copy the solution, or Continue in chat to ask why a step works.

Tips for accurate solutions

  • Write the problem unambiguously. Use brackets, because 6/2x can be read two ways while 6/(2x) cannot. Write powers as x^2 or x².
  • Include units and conditions. "Round to two decimals", "x is a positive integer" or "answer in cm²" change the solution.
  • One problem at a time. Several problems in one request make mistakes more likely. Solve them one by one.
  • Check the check. Look at the verification step at the end. If the numbers do not match, press Regenerate and compare.
  • Photo of a problem? The tool reads text only. In the chat, Llama 4 models can read an attached image, so you can photograph the problem there.

Example

Problem: A jacket costs 48 euros after a 20% discount. What was the original price?

StepWorking
1. Set upLet the original price be x. After a 20% discount you pay 80% of it: 0.8 × x = 48.
2. Solvex = 48 ÷ 0.8 = 60.
3. Check20% of 60 is 12, and 60 − 12 = 48. The result matches.
AnswerThe original price was 60 euros.

A common mistake is to add 20% to 48, which gives 57.60. The check step catches it, because 20% off 57.60 is not 48.

Limits

  • Mistakes still happen. The self-check reduces errors but does not remove them. For exams, homework you hand in or anything with real consequences, verify the answer yourself or with a calculator.
  • No graphs or drawings. The tool answers in text. It can describe a graph or a geometric construction, but it cannot draw one.
  • Very advanced math. Long proofs and research-level problems are beyond what a quick tool should be trusted with. Treat the output as a starting point.
  • Learn the method. If this is homework, use the steps to understand the method and follow your school's rules on AI tools. The Homework Helper has a hints-only mode for practice.

FAQ

Is the Math Solver free?

Yes. No account is needed. Every solution uses one message from your free daily allowance, which is shared with the chat and the other tools and renews daily.

What kinds of problems can it solve?

Arithmetic, percentages, fractions, linear and quadratic equations, systems of equations, geometry, basic statistics and probability, and many calculus problems such as derivatives and simple integrals.

Why does it not use LaTeX?

Plain symbols display correctly everywhere, including when you copy the answer into a message or a document. Fractions are written with a slash, powers with ² or ^, and roots with √, which is easy to read on a phone screen too.

Can it solve a problem from a photo?

Not in this tool, which takes typed text. Open the chat, keep Llama 4 Maverick or Llama 4 Scout selected, and attach a clear photo of the problem with your question.

Can it explain in my language?

Yes. Write the problem in your language and the steps come back in it.

Can I practice with similar problems?

Yes. Start a math prompt in the chat and ask for new problems after each solution. Our guide on checking AI answers shows how to catch mistakes.
